FAQ's

How can we help?
Should I get naked?

For Massage Therapy, yes! For mat work like Yoga Therapy, Shiatsu, and Assessment, no. But don’t worry, to ensure you feel comfortable, not vulnerable, you are under the sheet and properly draped throughout your session. Massage Therapy usually involves some kind of lubricant which is best left on your skin, not on your clothes. It’s also difficult for your therapist to maneuver around clothing while trying to work and can compromise their hands and posture shleading to injury. Your session is more effective when we can move across the entire length of a muscle or joint without having to pause and rearrange clothing, making some modalities less effective.

Does it matter if my body is clean, or can I come straight from the gym?

Yes it matters! Please clean up before your session. Not only is it respectful to your therapist, but you will reap the benefits of absorption of herbal and essential oils.  It’s just not nice to expect your therapist to touch dirty feet or stink.

Is it ok to wear cologne or perfume to my session?

It is best to avoid wearing fragrances. There are a lot of sensitive folks that have ill physiological side effects from certain fragrances that can linger even after you’ve gone. I am one of these folks and really appreciate the consideration.

If I don’t feel well, should I cancel/reschedule?

If you think you’re sick, wear a mask.  If we know from testing or diagnoses from a doctor that you are not contagious and just have allergies, come on it. You will probably get a great deal of relief from your symptoms. If you have any of the common flu/Covid/virus symptoms, like fever, body aches/chills, sore throat, coughing, sneezing, uncontrolled headaches, etc, and DO NOT KNOW what you are sick with, please cancel and get a diagnosis from your doctor or test before exposing others.

Will I be charged for canceling due to sickness, injury, or emergency?

Never! I encourage taking care of yourself above all. Please text or call immediately when you need to cancel. An email often isn’t seen in time for me to plan accordingly.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please allow 48 hrs notice for cancellation to avoid any charges. Last minute cancellations or no-shows are expected to pay full price. It is my desire to honor your time and health needs, and require that the same consideration be given.

Does Therapeutic Massage or Bodywork hurt?

Discomfort and intense sensations are not uncommon with therapeutic bodywork. With Cupping or Gua Sha, often red marks or even bruising can happen. These marks are due to severe stagnation being present, which means those tissues are not getting proper blood supply, have toxic build up, and subsequently oxygen deprived. We obviously want to solve this problem and the intervention is most necessary. Sometimes it can be unpleasant, even painful, when repatterning soft tissue. We are essentially breaking down constricted tissue in order to rebuild normalized movement patterns that support your structure as it is designed. The breath is the key! As the language of the body, breath is how we can lean into discomfort and release patterns of tension and gripping, repatterning soft tissue and nervous system reactions. The goal is to free the musculoskeletal and nervous system. Discomfort is often a necessary part of  change to again find balance and be free from dis-ease.
